the petting zoo grows…

Posted in lovey, pets, video games, weekend at 8:48 pm by Marise Phillips

i got two russian dwarf hamsters yesterday and have been enjoying their company very much ever since.

their names are Winkle and Abalone, and they are black and grey, respectively. Winkle is a cute little boy who loves to run on his wheel and is quite tame. Abalone is a really pretty pearly color, bigger, a female, and neither tame nor very nice to her cagemate.

of course the cats are very interested in the new arrivals!

i wrote this email to J today in response to his report from the blurb Tahoe Cabin..

Hi lovey,

Thank you for your note and letting me know how your day went so I don’t worry about you too much.

I had a nice and pretty uneventful day, consisting of a drive through Alameda looking at pretty houses with my mother, followed by coffee at Starbucks, then an hour or two of Viva Pinata (which is cute but the tutorial portion interrupts you too much to explain things whether you want them explained or not), topped off with a nice long nap. This was interspersed with looking at the lil guys and feeding them bits and pieces of things the internets say they might like. The food items they’ve enjoyed most so far are little nibbles off my organic brown rice snax, with whole raw pumpkin seeds coming in at a close second.

The kitties had a brief-ish Outdoor Adventure, while I watered the backyard. They aren’t as obsessive about the lil guys today, it seems.

I need to go to the pet store now for a better wheel. Oh, and the little grey girl hamster, Abalone, was the active one in the middle of the night and for part of the morning, while little black-with-white-paws-and-tummy Winkle has been very quiet so far today in comparison. So it looks like they are turn-takers when it comes to bouts of frenzied-but-delicate activity.

Love you honey bunny boo,

Meet the newest member of our family…

She's a black (really?!) pug that came to me courtesy of Nintendogs.

She's really not this blurry in real life. But I was impatient and wanted a picture NOW and the easiest way to do that (after spending almost an hour searching online for a screenshot) was to take a picture with my sorry excuse for a camera-phone.

I am not ashamed to admit that I am actually quite enjoying this cute little game. I get to pet her, wash & brush her, choose different colors of ribbons for her ears, or collars for her to wear. I can teach her voice commands (she knows Sit, Lie Down, Shake Hands, Roll Over and Jump) and she's already gotten to the "Expert Level" in the Obedience Trials.

Having owned real pugs in a former life, that's really saying something!! They aren't exactly the easiest dogs to train.

Anyway, I miss my little puppy Chloe (a black puglet who died under anesthesia at 6 months of age, back in 2000), so my new friend Blackie helps a bit.

Like I *Need* Another Hobby…

But alas, pretty yarn is so impossible to resist!

That's what I bought today at lunch. Got to take a little jaunt into the city to swing by a beautiful L.Y.S. (local yarn shop) ™ called ImagiKnit. Then I headed across the street and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Samovar Tea Lounge.

But with my PSP and the new game J got me this weekend, plus my addiction to the games I already had…

Not to mention my renewed obsession with all things fishy! I found the most beauuuutiful book at the Kinokuniya Bookstore this weekend, called Kingyo: The Artistry of Japanese Goldfish. Now I want fishies again…

And we're talking about visiting Japan this autumn (or next Spring, at the latest). Since we were in Japantown this weekend for the Cherry Blossom Fesitval, we saw all sorts of great display-tables advertising various Japanese things, one of them being very affordable Japanese language lessons. So I have had thoughts about signing up…

Shoot me before I die of self-improvement-overload!!

I ordered my new PlayStation Portable on Monday, and it's not due to arrive til next Tuesday!! *crys*

I hate this week. Not just cause I have to wait for the PSP, but also cause it's the first week of Daylight Savings and I'm TIRED!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Also, I am extremely annoyed with eBay because they suspended my account – someone hacked in and tried to sell a Mazda RX-8 using my account. Fuggers. It's been two-and-a-half days, I've jumped through all the hoops, and still I can't log in and bid, baby, bid! CRAP.

I've contemplated getting a new user ID but I don't wanna… I'm infected with some sort of uncurable eBay snobbery that prevents me from going back to the days of having a "(0) – I'm new!" next to my user ID.
